Google released the Android 16 beta 1 version in early January and announced that a new feature called “live updates” or “live notifications ile with this update. However, the Android 16 Beta 2, which has been released recently, has not yet brought this feature to users.

Nevertheless, a new demo application has revealed how live notifications will work and appear. So, what exactly does this innovation of Android 16 offer? Last month, software developer Viktor Mykhailiv developed a demo application to test the live notifications of Android 16. Mishaal Rahmaan from Android Authority created a progress -based notification using this application and shared a video showing how the new feature works.

This demo uses the Android 16’s SetshystcriticalText API to display short and critical information in the status bar chip. Live notifications will offer users to users with instant updates with the notification panel, status bar and open screen (AOD) support.

  • The notification chip in the status bar will be able to hide other notification icons while showing live updates.
  • When you touch the chip, an expanded information window will be opened just below the notification bar.
  • On the notification panel and AOD screen, the updated information can be displayed instantly.

What will live live notifications?

This new feature of Google will work in a similar way to the “Live Activities system in iOS. Apple’s Dynamic Island design on iPhone screens, which offers a similar use feature, will make life easier in many daily use scenarios. Prominent usage areas:

  • Flight tracking – instant information such as boarding time and door changes.
  • Food Orders – Follow the preparation and delivery of the order.
  • Taxi and Transportation Applications – Vision directly in the status bar of your vehicle’s arrival time.
  • Activity and meetings – Get instant updates about approaching or ongoing events.

In addition, application developers for ongoing notifications from the system will be able to offer more interactive and useful experiences. For now, this feature is not active in Beta 2. However, Google is expected to activate live notifications in one of the Android 16 beta versions that will come soon.
