Microsoft Copilot AI is officially coming to Windows 10
There is movement in Microsoft’s artificial intelligence goals. Here are all the details.
Today the company confirmed that it is bringing Copilot AI to Windows 10. Initially, Copilot will be available to Windows Insiders in the upcoming Release Preview update. Once the feature arrives, you’ll see the familiar Copilot interface that you can use to ask AI questions, manage Windows features, or interact with documents. Microsoft says the Copilot window will not overlap desktop content or block open windows. If this all sounds familiar, it’s because Windows Central reported that Windows 10 would be getting Copilot earlier this month. This move is not surprising. Even though Windows 11 is Microsoft’s newest operating system, it accounts for only 26 percent of Windows installations, according to GlobalStats. Meanwhile Windows 10 still Windows holds 69 percent of the market.
Microsoft announced that Windows 10 reached 1 billion devices in 2020, and it still seems to be above this figure. Reports from Windows Central show that Windows 11 is available on 400 million devices. If the company could announce that Copilot had pushed its AI to 1.4 billion devices by 2023, the AI hype that went into overdrive this year would have been worth it.
Windows 10’s Copilot will be previewed in North America, as well as parts of Asia and South America, over the next few months. Microsoft is offering to install the November preview update today for Windows Insiders who want to get in line for the update. They will also need to enable the “Get the latest updates as soon as they are available” feature in Windows Update.
