Facebook’s parent company, Meta, has finally come out and officially announced the augmented reality glasses it calls Orion.

Meta, OrionHe claimed that it was the most advanced augmented reality (AR/Augmented Reality) glasses ever. The device has the classic glasses design with a bone frame, but it would be correct to say that it has a thicker frame. The company also stated that it worked very hard to make the design this way and that Orion gives the user the feeling of a normal pair of glasses. According to Meta, the device has components sized down to a fraction of a millimeter. The company emphasizes that this is a miniaturization success. The glasses have clear lenses.

Orion has artificial intelligence that can detect and understand the user’s environment to predict the user’s needs and take action accordingly. This contextual artificial intelligence called Meta AI can, for example, look at the ingredients on the kitchen counter and create recipes. The user can call his friend while doing the dishes.

Unfortunately, Orion is not a consumer-oriented product. It’s also not a research prototype. For now, only employees and a certain group of people have access to glasses. In fact, the aim here is to develop a product series for the consumer with the data coming from the glasses. Going forward, Meta wants to improve the AR screen of the glasses, sharpen the visuals, refine the design, and most importantly, reduce the cost and make the price affordable.

Apart from AR glasses, the company introduced new artificial intelligence features for Ray-Ban Meta glasses and the $ 300 Meta Quest 3S mixed reality glasses, the successor of Meta Quest 3.

Galaxy Ring, the smallest and most compact product of the Galaxy wearable portfolio, introduced by Samsung in July 2024, fits comfortably on users’ fingers like an ordinary ring. Equipped with state-of-the-art sensors and Galaxy AI features, the smart ring Galaxy Ring offers a powerful fitness management experience.

Dating back more than 3,000 years to ancient Egypt, rings have symbolized different values of love, power and self-expression throughout human history. Now, the Galaxy Ring offered by Samsung Electronics has added fit to these values.

Samsung’s smart ring, Galaxy Ring, offers users comprehensive fitness tracking as a device that can be worn comfortably 24/7 with its ultra-compact and lightweight design. Its advanced artificial intelligence algorithms in sleep tracking, daily fitness scores and groundbreaking features in personalized fitness management provide meaningful data to improve users’ lifestyles.

Compact design optimized for 24/7 fitness tracking

Samsung Electronics Mobile Experience Business Unit Wearable Product Planning Group, which undertook the development and design of the Galaxy Ring, focused specifically on the rapidly growing field of fitness management while exploring new opportunities in the wearable device market.

This led Samsung to search for the most suitable form factor that delivers more accurate and fluid fitness data for personalized fitness solutions. After evaluating various form factors, the ring was decided on a user-friendly, small and lightweight object that could be worn 24/7.

Effortless user experience targeted

The main focus during the development of Galaxy Ring was to provide users with meaningful fitness information. Throughout the process, we worked in coordination with Samsung’s Digital Health Team and other relevant departments. One notable outcome of these collaborations was the launch of the Energy Score feature in Samsung Health.

In addition, users can also receive personalized fitness information powered by Galaxy AI to achieve their fitness goals faster. A new step in active and autonomous fitness management, this innovation goes beyond fitness tracking alone to offer users valuable information and guidance towards healthier living.

Comfort and aesthetics were among the main priorities of the teams developing the Galaxy Ring. Roh says users are surprised to see how light the wearable is: “During the planning phase, we did extensive research to deliver comfort and lightness. “We also carefully selected colors that match a wide range of styles.” While Roh states that it was especially challenging to design hand gestures and implement them, he emphasizes that they focused on various user scenarios to ensure that their product is practical and useful for everyone to create a connected Galaxy ecosystem.

As a result of all these efforts, Samsung introduced the feature that allows users to turn off the Wake-up alarm by squeezing their thumb and index finger twice while the Galaxy Ring is worn. It is also possible to control the camera of Galaxy smartphones with the same hand gesture, and this feature maximizes the connection between devices.

Unlike previous products, promotions were held before the launch of the Galaxy Ring to draw attention to the product. When the product was introduced to the markets, it turned out that the excitement for this wearable product was far beyond expectations. While the increasing interest inspired everyone working on the product, in the final stage of the launch, the teams worked intensively to bring the device to its current state.

Galaxy Ring

A new era in fitness management begins

Galaxy Ring, the newest member of Samsung’s Galaxy wearable product series, was introduced as a game-changing innovation. This new form factor, introduced after the Galaxy Watch Series, provides a more up-close and personal fitness experience with powerful capabilities in a small and lightweight structure.
