A new study has shown that iOS users are exposed to more cyber attacks than Android users, contrary to popular belief.
A new study by Lookout, a Boston-based cloud security company, found that iOS devices are exposed to higher levels of phishing and web content threats compared to Android devices. This analysis, covering the third quarter of 2024, highlights important trends and alarming statistics in mobile security threats.
The research stated that identity theft and phishing attempts against corporate devices increased by 17 percent compared to the previous quarter. It was also emphasized that there was a 32 percent increase in malicious application detections. While it was observed that iOS devices were more vulnerable to these threats, in the first three quarters of 2024, 19 percent of iOS devices encountered at least one mobile phishing attack, while this rate was recorded as 10.9 percent on Android devices.
The evolving nature of mobile threats is becoming a serious concern as cybercriminals increasingly target mobile devices in the early stages of their attacks. Lookout’s research highlights the need for stronger security measures to protect sensitive data on mobile platforms.
Additionally, Lookout’s Threat Lab has identified two critical mobile surveillance software families linked to advanced persistent threat (APT) groups in China and Russia. These findings once again reveal how complex and persistent threats targeting mobile devices can be.
The company’s AI-powered data set, which covers more than 220 million devices, 360 million applications and billions of web content, plays an important role in determining global threat trends. This data guides security teams in different sectors on precautions to be taken against mobile threats. Additionally, by integrating telemetry data obtained from mobile devices into their security strategies, it becomes possible for businesses to strengthen their defense mechanisms through systems such as SIEM, SOAR or XDR.
Research While reminding once again how critical mobile security is for businesses and individuals, it reveals the importance of using advanced security technologies to deal with new generation threats.
