HPE (Hewlett Packard Enterprise) Announces Industry’s First Liquid Cooled System Architecture
Hewlett Packard Enterprise (NYSE: HPE) announced the industry’s first 100 percent fanless, direct liquid-cooled system architecture to improve the energy and cost efficiency of large-scale AI systems.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise (NYSE: HPE) announced the industry’s first 100 percent fanless, direct liquid-cooled system architecture to improve the energy and cost efficiency of large-scale AI systems.
Although efficiency is increasing in new generation computing infrastructures, energy consumption is also increasing with the rapid development of artificial intelligence and more is needed than traditional liquid cooling techniques.
The most effective way to cool new generation artificial intelligence systems is through direct liquid cooling systems pioneered by HPE. Thanks to this new cooling technology, the systems designed by HPE managed to be included in 7 of the top 10 supercomputers on the Green500 list, which lists the world’s most energy-efficient supercomputers.
HPE‘s 100 percent fanless direct liquid cooling architecture will enable the cost and energy efficiency advantages already enjoyed by leading AI systems to extend to all organizations working on productive AI.
“As organizations seize the opportunities created by generative AI, they must also support sustainability goals, combat increasing power requirements, and reduce operational costs,” said HPE President and CEO Antonio Neri. Our new architecture uses only liquid cooling and provides greater energy and cost savings than alternative hybrid cooling solutions on the market. “HPE’s expertise in deploying the world’s largest liquid-cooled IT environments and our decades of market leadership positions us perfectly to capture demand for AI.”
The new system architecture is built on the following four pillars:
- 8-component cooling design with liquid cooling for full blade server fabric, network, local storage, GPU, CPU, rack/cabinet, pod/cluster, and cooler distribution unit (CDU)
- High-density, high-performance system design, complemented by rigorous testing, monitoring software and on-site service to support the successful deployment of sophisticated computing and cooling systems
- Massively integrated network fabric design to integrate low-cost and low-power connections
- Open system design offering flexibility in the selection of accelerators
The 100 percent fanless direct liquid cooling architecture offers unique advantages, including a 37 percent reduction in cooling power required per blade server compared to hybrid direct liquid cooling alone. This reduces electricity costs, carbon emissions and data center fan noise. Additionally, systems using this architecture support greater server cabinet density and take up half less space.

The rumor mills continue to turn at full speed. A remarkable new claim has been made. It has been claimed that Apple will make major changes to the screen of iPad Air, iMac and Studio Display. Here are the details…
Rumor has it that Apple, iPad Air is developing displays with a 90 Hz refresh rate for the 24-inch iMac and Studio Display. This rumor was revealed by an anonymous source who reached out to Myke Hurley and Jason Snell’s Upgrade podcast. The screens of the iPad Air, iMac and Studio Display currently on the market offer a 60 Hz refresh rate. If the claim is true, the new 90 Hz screen will be used first on the iPad Air with M3 processor. It will come to iMac and Studio Display later.
In his report published weeks ago, display analyst Ross Young stated that Apple was working on a ProMotion display that supports 120 Hz refresh rate for iPhone 17s. However, this is the first time that the technology giant has claimed to have developed 90 Hz display technology for its other devices. The claim is quite remarkable because it was brought to the agenda for the first time.
According to Bloomberg and several different sources, the new generation iPad Air will be released in the first half of 2025, along with the iPhone SE 4. While a few sources give the release date as March, others emphasize that both devices will be released around April. There are no rumors yet about when the next generation Studio Display will be available. The new iMac was announced last week. Therefore, we can see the iMac with a 90 Hz refresh rate in late 2025 at the earliest.
