Dacia introduced the Sandrider prototype that will be used by the Dacia Sandriders team in the Dakar Rally and World Rally-Raid Championship as of 2025.

Dacia, with its outdoor spirit that continues to redefine its foundations, will participate in the Dakar Rally and the World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC) starting from 2025. Tackling some of the world’s toughest and toughest terrain, Dacia introduces the Sandrider racing car prototype designed to win.

Inspired by the Manifesto concept car that Dacia introduced in 2022 and defined as a laboratory of new ideas, Sandrider is offered as a completely new model designed especially for rally races.

This model benefits from the sports expertise of the Renault Group and that of Prodrive, a British company specializing in motorsport.

The product has been designed to focus on performance and victory, in line with Dacia’s approach and motorsport spirit. This innovative prototype takes advantage of all the possibilities offered by the regulations in the Ultimate T1+ category, focusing primarily on agility and weight. It fully meets the basic needs of pilots and co-pilots who actively participated in the development process from the very beginning. Pilots and co-pilots transfer their experience and knowledge to designers and engineers through hands-on design processes using virtual reality, from the very beginning of the project and before many test sessions are carried out.

The model, which is quite different in many aspects and at the same time a complete Dacia in every aspect, reflects all the core values ​​of the brand in the best way.



Designed by Dacia’s own designers, Sandrider’s understated exterior focuses squarely on the essentials. The vehicle was equipped with only the necessary body panels. Naturally, special attention was paid to aerodynamics in Sandrider, which has no decorative or unnecessary parts.

As part of the brand’s approach focusing on the basic needs of both pilots and co-pilots, the short and horizontal engine hood; It has a curved design that disappears from the team’s field of vision. Anti-reflective paint used on the upper part of the front panel, a technique transferred from the aviation industry, also optimizes visibility.

Dacia designers and engineers paid particular attention to the requirements, habits and constraints of both pilot and co-pilots in the cabin. Sandrider’s modular instrument panel allows each team member to tailor the ergonomics and layout of specific features to their own needs.



Sandrider, which will compete in Dakar, one of the most challenging motor sports events in the world, needs an approach that takes Dacia’s strong exterior design concept to the extreme.

In order to meet this need; A reinforced subframe and bumpers, carbon bodywork, double wishbone suspension and a 4×4 transmission designed to adapt to the demanding demands of rally racing come into play. An innovative electrical system provides the energy required for all in-car accessories, even in the most difficult conditions.

Sandrider‘s strong design approach goes beyond basic design features and includes solutions that may seem like details but actually make life significantly easier for the team.

For example, Sabelt seats are covered with special anti-bacterial fabrics that self-regulate moisture. For ease of use, the spare tires are not covered. Likewise, the team can quickly access tools in the cabinet without having to open a box.

Apart from this, there is a magnetic plate on the body of Sandrider to prevent the wheel bolts from being lost in the sand. This is one of the details directly inspired by the experiences of the team pilots and implemented using Dacia’s practical solution idea.

Sandrider is equipped with new generation BF Goodrich tires that provide superior grip on all types of terrain and have optimum resistance to impacts and punctures.

Late 1890s: From sewing machines and bicycles to automobiles

The company’s success story began in 1862. Adam Opel laid the foundations of the company by producing the first sewing machine in Rüsselsheim. It quickly became one of Germany’s largest sewing machine manufacturers and exported to all of Europe.

He took his next successful step on a bicycle. The first “penny-farthing” bicycle was produced in Rüsselsheim in 1886, making the company one of the first bicycle manufacturers in Germany. In parallel with automobile production in the 1920s, it became the largest bicycle manufacturer in the world. Behind this success were the sons of company founder Adam.

They were the ones who made radical changes in motor transportation within the company. Due to the decline of the bicycle trade in the 1890s, the brothers came across the automobile while looking for new products. Fritz and Wilhelm visited the first German Motor Show in Berlin in 1897 and met Friedrich Lutzmann there. The master designer had been producing motor vehicles since 1894 and thus had the experience the brothers were looking for. He invited the brothers to his factory in Dessau; Here Fritz and Wilhelm immediately realized the automobile production potential that Lutzmann offered them.


First advertisements of new models

Although they initially considered cooperation, the brothers later made Lutzmann an attractive offer for the entire production, including land, buildings and workshop equipment.
