Hyundai Motor Company is preparing to change all the balances in the A-SUV segment by introducing its completely new electric model INSTER at the 2024 Busan International Mobility Fair.

INSTER is based on the design heritage of the gasoline CASPER, which went on sale in 2021 and is produced only in Korea. The INSTER’s styling, which Hyundai strategically developed for other markets outside Korea, consists of a lengthened body to offer more interior space and solid handling. Supported by a wide wheelbase, the car offers interior comfort that competes with much larger vehicles, even though it is in the A segment. Thus, it is positioned exactly between the A segment and B segment compact models.

INSTER

Versatility and high-end materials in the interior

INSTER welcomes its users with a 10.25-inch digital panel in its advanced cabin. The 10.25-inch infotainment system with navigation comes with a touch screen as in other models. The center console of this cabin, designed to create a feeling of more spaciousness, includes controls such as wireless charging, ventilation and multimedia. The graphics on INSTER’s steering wheel are presented with a pixel theme, strengthening the high-tech image of the car.

There are also optional upper door trims for further personalization of the interior design. INSTER’s interior offers versatility and spaciousness, while front-row seating provides pass-through access. The rear seats can also be split 50/50 and slide back and forth and recline as needed.

INSTER

Sustainability is a priority

Using sustainable materials for both exterior and interior, INSTER replaces the carbon black pigment traditionally used in black paint with a colorant made from recycled waste tires. In addition, the plastic materials in the interior are prepared using bio-polypropylene obtained from pet bottles and sugar cane.

Fast charging feature and segment-leading range

Hyundai INSTER stands out with its DC charging speed and maximum driving range. It provides a more comfortable freedom of travel thanks to the infrastructure that allows users to spend less time charging.

INSTER

Equipped with a 42 kWh battery as standard, INSTER also has an optional long-range 49 kWh battery. These two versions produce 71.1 kW (97 PS) and 84.5 kW (115 PS) and are powered by a single engine. The maximum torque value of both versions is 147 Nm. The long-range version offers a segment-leading range of 355 km (WLTP) on a single charge, while the average energy consumption per 100 km is given as 15.3 kWh.

hyundai INSTERWhen using a 120 kW high-power DC charging station, it can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in approximately 30 minutes. INSTER also offers an 11 kW onboard charger, a dedicated battery heating system and a high-efficiency heat pump as standard. Offering external and internal V2L functionality, the car also allows bi-directional charging. INSTER is also preparing to become famous as a daily user-friendly device that allows you to freely use or charge devices such as electric bikes, scooters and camping equipment in nature.

While Tesla is expected to enter the Indian market, Elon Musk’s recent actions and the company’s strategic decisions indicate that these plans have been put on hold.

While it remains unclear whether Tesla will invest in India, positive news from Europe is reshaping the company’s global expansion strategies.

Last year, Elon Musk announced that Tesla was planning to make a rapid entry into the Indian market. The Indian government has been keen on reducing import duties and making some concessions to foreign electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers. This was in line with the company’s desire to set up operations in India. However, recent developments show that these plans have been put on hold.

Indian officials stated that Elon Musk canceled his visit to India at the last minute to meet with government representatives and the Tesla team remained silent on this issue. This cancellation came despite the Indian government’s facilities for foreign EV manufacturers. From the beginning, Tesla wanted to set up operations in the country before switching to local production, and the compromise India reached sounded like everything Musk wanted.

Tesla

There may be several reasons for the change in the company’s India plans:

  • Decline in Revenues: While Tesla’s second-quarter earnings were better than expected, there was a significant decline in the company’s revenues overall. These financial pressures may cause the company to re-evaluate its plans to enter new markets.
  • Local Production Commitments: The Indian government expects EV manufacturers to make serious commitments to set up local manufacturing facilities. This could complicate the company’s plans to expand its operations in India.

More good news is coming from Europe for the company. The company has received the green light from the German environmental authority to proceed with its Berlin Gigafactory expansion. This approval allows the company to create logistics space for more vehicles, a stairwell in the pressing plant and an access guard. Despite claims from environmental groups about its potential to pollute the waters of a protected area, this approval is a significant victory for the company.

Suspension of the company’s plans to enter the Indian market, of the company It shows that it is re-evaluating its global expansion strategies. Elon Musk’s last-minute cancellation and the Tesla team’s silence leaves the company’s operations in India with an uncertain future. However, positive news from Europe shows that the company continues its efforts to expand and strengthen its global operations. It is still unclear when and how Tesla will enter the Indian market.
